Technical Support
We strive to provide the best user experience with PPC Tablet. If you encounter difficulties while using PPC Tablet, we want to know about it. Make sure you have read the installation guide and the user manual. There is a lot of useful information in them.
Windows Mobile 6 Issues
If you tried to run PPC Tablet on a Windows Mobile 6 device, you might have encountered a .NET Framework exception. Please follow these steps to get it working:
- Install "netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab" on your Pocket PC first. (If you need this CAB file, you can download it from here: netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab.)
- Install the PPC Tablet Suite client and server applications, by running Setup.exe.
- Then remove "netcf.core.ppc3.arm" from the Pocket PC.
- Now PPC Tablet client application should be running correctly on your Pocket PC.
General Connection Issues
Because PPC Tablet is a networking product, if you can't connect your Pocket PC to the host computer, we would like you to run a quick check before you report the problem to us. Maybe that is just what you need to resolve the problem.
First, check the physical connection between the Pocket PC and the host computer.
- If you are using the sync cable, there should be an ActiveSync session already running, and the ActiveSync window on the host computer should show its status as "Connected". (Some users configured their ActiveSync to disconnect after synchronizing all the data. They need to re-configure it to sync "continuously.")
- If you are using a TCP/IP network, make sure both the Pocket PC and the host computer are connected to the same network and have a valid IP address.
- If you are using a WiFi network, check if your Pocket PC and/or host computer have associated with the access point. If there is encryption enabled on the WiFi network, make sure the encryption key has been entered into the Pocket PC and/or host computer.
- If you are using Bluetooth for connection, please refer to the user manual of your Bluetooth products. PPC Tablet support the following three Bluetooth profiles: Bluetooth ActiveSync, Bluetooth PAN and Bluetooth LAN profiles. The Bluetooth configuration varies between the Microsoft and Widcomm Bluetooth stacks, between different brands and driver versions.
Second, check if you have a firewall product installed on your network or host computer. These products include: Windows XP's built-in personal firewall, third-party hardware or software firewall products, Internet security products, recent versions of anti-virus software (such as Norton Anti-Virus 2005). If the Pocket PC and the host computer are on different network segments, the router(s) on the network can also block communication. In these cases, make sure the firewall allows traffic on the port that you chose for PPC Tablet (the default port is TCP 333). Or, on most of these products, you can grant "full-access" permission to the PPC Tablet Server application.
The Windows Firewall that comes with Windows XP and Server 2003 computers is known to interfere with PPC Tablet over a Bluetooth PAN or LAN connection. You will need to disable the firewall on the Bluetooth connection.
Third, if your computer is not connected to the Internet or any local area network, the computer may not have a valid IP address. In this case, you will need to install the "Microsoft LoopBack Adapter". It is a free network driver that comes with every computer. You can use the "Add Hardware" wizard to manually install it on your computer. After it is installed, you should assign it a manual IP address, such as 192.168.2.1 (or any address that is not being used). If you are running PPC Tablet on a corporate network, first consult your network administrator or technician, because they are more familiar with your network configuration than we can possibly be.
If you are still having problems, contact our technical support at support@amorphous-media.com. Please include the following information in your e-mail: the version of PPC Tablet, the operating system version of your Pocket PC and host computer, the kind of connection you use between the Pocket PC and host computer, the error message you received (if any), and the port number you used. Also check if you have any of the above-mentioned firewall products installed on your computer or network. We will try our best to solve the issue for you.
There is a debug library that we use to identify connection problems, you can download it from here. It is a CAB file for Pocket PCs. First, connect your Pocket PC to the computer through ActiveSync. Then copy the debug library to anywhere on the Pocket PC. Open the File Explorer on the Pocket PC and run it. The debug library will be installed on your Pocket PC. The next time you run PPC Tablet, if any error occurs, you will see a more detailed error message. Please include that error message when you contact us, so we can quickly resolve your problem.
